"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." - Aristotle
What is Debate?
Debate includes multiple events: Lincoln-Douglas (LD), Policy Debate (CX) , Public Forum (PF), Extemporaneous Speech, Student Congress (CD), Original Oratory (OO), and Prose and Poetry(PR & PO). Although each event has a different, specific format, each one focuses on constructing persuasive arguments through research, logic, and political theories. Additionally, each event teaches students to think critically, analytically, and become more tolerant of others opinions. Debate tournaments comprise of a series of rounds in which students compete against debaters from schools in the district, region, and, in some cases, the country.
Who are we?
The Legacy Debate Team is a group of the best and brightest students from Mansfield Legacy High School. We compete in intellectual argumentation and speech events offered by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), Texas Forensic Association (TFA), and National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA). In the past 15 years, the Legacy Debate Team competed and won trophies at various tournaments around the state and country, including at Texas Tech, UNT, UT Austin, San Antonio, SMU, Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, and Harvard University. This past year, the Legacy Debate Team proudly fostered UIL, NTDA, and TFA state qualifiers in CX, regional LD qualifers, the LD NTDA champion, and top speakers and finalists at Stanford University's Tournament of Champions. We hope to continue this legacy of excellence for many years to come.
